An
action-packed, thrill-a-minute western, Billy Killdeere delivers
adventure on every page. More western than romance, there is,
none-the-less a love interest that keeps Billy Killdeere just enough
off-balance to make this outlaw attractive.
Part of a
famous outlaw family (ala the James Gang), Billy wants to go
straight—not necessarily for altruistic reasons though he has a
stronger moral fiber than the rest, but simply because he’s tired of
the life. He wants to settle down, build something, have a future.
He stakes out his claim on the family’s ranch and immediately runs
into trouble with the shady town sheriff who sets him up with a
pilfering cattle buyer.
Billy may
have given up the outlaw life, but he’s a fighter and if someone
does him wrong he fights back. Only he didn’t kill the sheriff, but
no one believes a “former” outlaw so he takes off. And embarks on
an adventure reminiscent of the Perils of Pauline.
There’s
plenty of opportunities for Billy to show his prowess with a gun but
they are interspersed here and there with touching moments that
remind you that Billy is a man trying to find his place in a world
that won’t let him forget his past, and that includes the lovely
Jenny Baxter.
All the
elements of the Old West are here—gunfighters, outlaws, shady
lawmen, cutthroat gamblers, prostitutes and decent working men who
do the right thing. If you want to take a journey west, you won’t
go wrong with this book. |
