When Bodine, the bounty
hunter, agrees to return Emma Rourke to her grandmother, his old
commander’s widow, he gets more than he bargained for.
Heiress Emma Rourke has fled
rather than face a loveless marriage. She’s gone looking for an
outlaw father she didn’t know existed and hoping to find herself
along the way. Emma can sing like an angel and she aims to use that
talent to finance her quest.
When she runs into Bodine
(Just Bodine), she thinks it is happenstance that he saves her from
an unscrupulous saloon owner. Bodine uses his own quest for revenge
for the killing of his brother as a cover and soon the two are
taking similar paths.
Never thinking his heart would
be at risk to this “wisp of a girl” and pledged to marry his
brother’s widow, Bodine tries to stay one-step ahead of the feisty
female. But her grit and determination as well as her beauty lure
him.
Emma can’t imagine this
mountain of a man with his gray-blue eyes and rustic ways is
destined to be more than a temporary protector. But when she has to
nurse him back to health, she learns more about Bodine than is
proper. Despite her growing attraction to the man, she won’t let
anything deter her from pursuit of her long lost father. As Emma
seeks her illusive past, Bodine faces the challenges of keeping his
promises: to Mrs. Rourke, his dead brother, his dead brother’s widow
but most of all to Emma.
Charlene Sands writes an
entertaining, action-packed tale of trust and betrayal. The details
about the saloon songs were a special treat.
