The
Calvary Wife is a wonderful read with fascinating characters
and a love story set against the backdrop of the west.
After
a night of drinking, Calvary Captain Chase Brooks wanders into the
wrong room. The following morning he is discovered in bed with a
young lady by her guardians. Thanks to this most grievous gaffe, he
soon finds himself reluctantly wed to the lovely Callie Grant.
Despite his original intentions to leave her with her guardians,
Chase takes his new bride with him as he heads west to Fort Arbuckle.
Chase is convinced the city-raised girl won't last a minute in the
remote land and will beg to return home. Little does he suspect, his
reluctant bride is anything but.
The
shotgun marriage provides Callie with an escape, and a chance to
begin life anew and away from her controlling guardians. She eagerly
embraces the opportunity that it provides and heads west with her
new husband. Along the way Chase battles his growing attraction for
his wife as he is determined to keep it a marriage in name only.
Having been betrayed in the past, he is reluctant to get closer to
his wife. Callie thrives in her new life and she soon finds herself
falling for her new husband, but must discover a way to convince him
to believe in love and in her…before it's too late.
With
its vivid descriptions and likeable characters, The Calvary
Wife is a wonderful romance. The inclusion of real-life
historical figures such as Grant and Custer enhanced the story as
did the lovely setting. The hero and heroine were a perfect match.
Callie is an admirable heroine and her longing for adventure and a
chance to make her own life was one that I could easily relate to.
With his strength yet vulnerability, Chase is a hero that any woman
would be proud to call her own. Watching as the relationship between
these two fiery characters grew and blossomed was highly
entertaining, and left you wondering what would happen next. The
Calvary Wife is a fabulous western romance and I look
forward to reading more from this talented author.
