When
Sheriff Aaron McBain wakes up in the hospital after treatment for a
gunshot wound, he thinks he sees an angel. But it is Susannah
Carvel, his new nurse, who also happens to be on the run as a
suspect in the fatal shooting of her cruel senator husband.
Using
an assumed name, Susannah has been steadily moving west, hiding from
the law until fate hands her a lawman for a patient. Sparks fly
immediately, so when Aaron soon learns her true identity and
circumstance, he vows to clear her name and convinces her that, as
his wife, he can keep her safe. It doesn't take much to convince
Susannah since this couple is in love. But clearing her name may
take more than either of them had bargained for.
Ms.
Davidson is a talented writer, though I found the basic premise of
this couple falling in love so quickly and completely given their
past experiences, difficult to accept, which kept me from fully
appreciating the rest of the book. Still, any woman would want the
gentle, sensitive and protective Sheriff McBain to fall so fully in
love with them he could forgive anything, even the possibility of
murder
