In this erotic romance,
mail-order bride Amanda McCormick arrives in Kansas City to meet the
fiancé she has only corresponded with and never seen. Distressed
when he’s not there, she seeks out the station master to tell her
tale of woe.
Overhearing the conversation,
rogue, gambler and con-man Spencer Teague realizes he fits the
description of the absent Travis Baxter and decides to pretend he is
the expected fiancé in order to seduce the lovely Miss McCormick.
Gullible, naïve and wanting to
believe her life is changing for the better, a tipsy Amanda allows
herself to be seduced by the man she believes is the sensitive, warm
fiancée who has been her correspondent the last year. After an
incredible night, Amanda awakes the next morning to find out the
truth in a note left by her incorrigible lover.
Filled with shame, haunted by
what has occurred, she considers baring her soul to the real Travis
Baxter who has finally arrived having been delayed by several
misfortunes. But he is so kind and almost everything she hoped for,
even if he doesn’t set her ablaze like the despicable Spencer
Teague, she can’t bring herself to tell him of her disgrace.
Keeping her secret, Amanda
marries Travis and tries, unsuccessfully, to put the past behind
her. Her husband is a sensitive lover though he doesn’t compare with
Teague. She is horrified that she still thinks of that man’s
caresses when she has everything she should want with Travis. When
she finds out she is pregnant, she worries over whose child she is
carrying.
In the meantime, Spencer can’t
get the red-headed Amanda out of his head, particularly as fate
seems to be paying him back for the horrible thing he’s done to her.
More disturbingly, he is haunted by a vision of a red-headed girl
who tells him he must go back because Amanda needs him. Indeed the
prophecy comes true as tragedy strikes the Baxters. Letting Spencer
back in her life is a mistake, however much she and her husband need
his help. Because how can she possibly have feelings for two very
different men; one who is such a bad boy and one who is so good?
Bonnie Dee not only has
written a very sexy romance, but one filled with compelling,
multi-dimensional characters and a captivating emotion-filled story
that kept me turning the pages. I couldn’t read fast enough to find
out how this complex threesome was going to play out. I felt
Amanda’s pain and turmoil, fell in love with the sensitive Travis
and was both horrified and attracted to the loathsome Spencer
Teague. Indeed the author’s resurrection of Spencer in the mind of
the reader is a triumph of excellent writing and characterization.
If you enjoy erotic romance and love western historicals, this novel
won’t disappoint. |
