Clay
McClellan came in search of a long lost twin brother, Cliff Edwards,
whose absence from his life had always haunted him. He didn’t find
his brother. Instead he found his brother’s widow, Sophie, and four
beautiful but scrappy little nieces. Committed to finding the men
who murdered Cliff as well as protecting his brother’s family, he
buys back Cliff’s ranch, determined to stay. He decides the
Christian thing would be to marry Sophie so he can properly care for
them all, despite the fact he knows next to nothing about women.
Problem is he didn’t consult her.
Sophie Edwards had been scraping by long before her
husband got murdered. Since Cliff hadn’t been exactly a paragon of
a husband or father, she’d taken on the burden of feeding and
protecting her children. When her husband’s twin brother, a stranger
to her, marches in and starts dictating how things will be, she’s
ready to bust a gut. But then there are her girls to consider and
Sophie will do anything for her girls.
When Sophie finally agrees to marry Clay, neither of
them is prepared for the sparks that fly—in every way imaginable.
Clay can’t seem to wrap his mind around the fact that his pretty new
wife and the four little girls might know a tad more about ranching
and surviving than he’s ready to give them credit for. Having a man
want to do for her is something Sophie finds harder to accept than
she ever imagined, especially one as commanding as Clay McClellan.
Though she’d prayed to God to help her so many times, this wasn’t
exactly what she meant—or was it?
When the vigilantes that killed her husband come
calling, Sophie and Clay will need to depend on each other to fight
the evil they bring. But can they put aside their battle of the
sexes and forge a binding love to face the challenges ahead
together?
Petticoat Ranch is a witty and insightful
inspirational romance that takes “Men are from Mars, Women are from
Venus” to the Old West. Though Clay can be condescending, the joke
is almost always on him. Mary Connealy had me laughing out loud too
many times to count as Sophie tried figure out her husband and Clay
tried to understand what the females in his life were fussing
about. One memorable passage where the women are discussing how the
men are “talking” to each other had me doubled over with laughter.
Romance, adventure and a smile on your face—Petticoat Ranch delivers
it all. |
