C.H. Admirand's The
Rancher's Heart, set in the late 1800's, is sure to put a
smile on your face and a tear in your eye.
When feeding your son is more
important than your own life, you deserve to be rescued, and falling
in love along the way is an added bonus. Bridget O'Toole had nothing
in this world save her son, Mick, and her missing husband's family
bible. Her husband, Michael O'Toole, had abandoned her, never knowing
she carried his child. For years Bridget searched for Michael with
their son in tow. After twelve years of fruitless searching, she
assumed her husband was dead. During this time, her son Mick becomes
involved with a group of cattle rustlers and is caught by Irish
immigrant rancher, James Ryan.
James is running from his own
secrets that could very well earn him a place on the hangman's
noose. But he made a promise to help those in need, as he was once
helped. After setting out to earn the young cattle rustler's trust,
James learns Mick's mother is ill, and agrees to bring the young
widow and her son to his ranch. However, he never counted on the
widow's steadfast determination and strength of character. He
certainly wasn't counting on her comeliness, either.
Bridget is grateful for the
kind-hearted James and the help he's offered her and her son. He
stirs feelings in her she'd thought long buried with the memory of
her husband. But the unexpected ensues when Bridget's husband
suddenly appears, leading a gang of outlaws into town. After he is
arrested, Bridget is determined to see the man with her own two
eyes, to prove that this outlaw is, indeed, "her" Michael. The
moment she sees her husband, Bridget is both shocked and distraught.
How will she explain to Mick that his father is still alive and
sitting in the county jail? How can she leave James-the man she has
come to love with her body and soul-and return to the husband, who
is nothing short of a stranger to her now?
Ms. Admirand does an excellent
job of capturing the time period. The engaging storyline and rich
characters made it difficult to put this book down. I was hooked
from the very first page. The Rancher's Heart is a
sweeping saga that you will enjoy reading time and again. I highly
recommend this worthwhile historical romance.
