Leisure Historical Romance
Leigh Greenwood

Leigh Greenwood has done it again for the last installment of The Cowboys series, Eden's story. When Isabelle Maxwell finds out she's the illegitimate offspring of the Earl of Southampton who has come to claim her as his own, Isabelle, her daughter Eden, and her cowboy rancher husband Jake, set off to England at the Earl's request to meet the rest of the family.

Feeling like fish out of water, the Maxwell's do their best to understand the British side of the family with Eden having an especially hard time appreciating the reasons for the reserve the Earl's family exercises to cover up their real feelings about things. This is particularly true of her distant cousin, Edward, heir to the title. He's being hornswoggled into a loveless marriage to save the estate. When she shares a secret in order to set him free from the obligation, she's unprepared for the fallout and so is Edward.

Finding himself in Texas, of all places, with few skills and little money, Edward Davenport hooks up with the only family he knows this side of the Atlantic and signs on as a ranch hand at Eden's brothers' ranch. It's no accident that he headed for Texas because he can't seem to get Eden and her freewheeling ways off his mind despite her blurting out a secret that changed his life. He's longed for personal freedom and now that he's got it he's out to prove he can cut it in a new world.

Part of proving himself is staking his own claim to a ranch but he needs some cowboy experience as well as money. He hopes to earn the money from entering his horse, Crusader, in an important race. Until he has a life to offer Eden, he has to keep his emotions in check. With her coming to help out her brothers' pregnant wives, that's going to be harder than he ever imagined. Succumbing to the charms of Eden's blunt, open and tantalizingly expressive ways, Edward will soon discover there is nothing like Texas Loving. But with unseen enemies targeting the Maxwell's on their own land and the race an opportunity for more mayhem, their future is in jeopardy.

This book is an intriguing end to the beloved series, contrasting British formality and reticence with open-handed Texas freedom, all against the sweeping backdrops of England and the open range of Texas. Eden has grown into a plucky heroine, ready to do what it takes to help the man she loves find his heart, and as importantly, listen to it. With plenty of twists and turns to keep the action moving and characters that strike just the right cord, Texas Loving is the final gem in the Cowboy series crown.
