Another winner by
Leigh Greenwood, Texas Tender gives us a different style hero
cowboy. Will Haskins is uncommonly handsome but he views his looks
as more of a curse than a blessing. When he comes to buy a bull from
Idalou Ellsworth he’s intrigued that she’s more concerned about the
disappearance of her bull than in trying to put the marriage rope
around his neck like most of the female population of Dunmore. He
allows himself to get talked into being a sheriff, mainly as an
excuse to stay around Idalou a little longer. But he goes about his
duties, which mainly involve keeping Idalou and her brother from
being victims of a land grab, using reason instead of a gun to bring
justice to the town.
Will is a born arbitrator, being able to see
both sides of an argument, and he uses his skills to bring people
together instead of pushing them further apart. At first Idalou is
incensed that he doesn’t do more strong- arming seeing he is so good
with a gun and has the requisite muscle to back it up. She as much
as calls him a coward for not confronting the rancher she thinks is
responsible for her troubles. But over time, Will’s way gets results
and she comes to admire him as she finds herself falling in love
with the man.
Meanwhile, Will is drawn to Idalou’s independent
spirit while seeing the vulnerability that she tries to conceal
underneath her expressive, say-whatever-I-think attitude. He’s
determined to see where this is going with Idalou while endearingly
attempting to protect his own heart. As they solve the mystery of
who is behind all the Ellsworth trouble, their romantic feelings for
each other blossom and they come to accept each other and, as
importantly themselves, for whom they are. This is a western
historical romance with two characters you won’t soon forget and who
you can’t help but like. |
