When Noah Calhoun takes over
as sheriff of Chancetown, Wyoming he doesn’t expect to find much
trouble in the small town. But as soon as he meets some of the
inhabitants, he realizes he was mistaken. And never more so then
when he stumbles upon Rosalyn Benedict, the town misfit.
Rosalyn has been living on the
streets of Chancetown for ten years, since she was orphaned at ten
years old. She’s grubby with greasy hair, stained clothes, and dirt
an inch thick coating her body. She eats her meals out of the slop
can behind the local restaurant and lives under stairwells. Hardly
your typical romance heroine. And that’s what makes The Legacy
a special book.
Because like Noah Calhoun who
tries diligently to help Rosalyn—often against her will—the reader
can see Rosalyn’s beauty, grit, and determination underneath the
grimy outer coating. Despite public opinion, Noah takes her on as a
project, drawn to her because he understands all too well what her
drive to survive has made her do—things she’s ashamed of, things she
doesn’t want to remember. Much like he had to do when faced with
similar circumstances years before.
At first wary, Rosalyn comes
to accept and then crave the attention of the good-looking sheriff.
Thinking he’s too good for her, suspicious of his kindness, she
can’t help being drawn to a man who seems to understand her down to
her very core. Noah is tough when he has to be, but with gentle ways
he unravels for Rosalyn the mysteries of love.
Too bad greed has taken up
residence in Chancetown and exploded in a feud between cattle
rancher and sheep farmer. The consequences of the feud threaten
Chancetown and Rosalyn, challenging Noah to use his wits to ferret
out the bad guys.
Ms. Williamson’s sparse prose
style makes this erotic romance a fast read, while the characters,
particularly Rosalyn, make this book so worthwhile. With Rosalyn,
Ms. Williamson makes a compelling case to judge people by the
quality of their character rather than their appearance.
