When Texas Ranger Jake McCain passes out in a blizzard at the door of Rachel Hudson's cabin, he's sure this is the end. But, in fact, it's only the beginning.

Finding himself a patient of the pretty school mistress, more than learning lessons enters Jake's mind. But he's got a vicious, vile outlaw to capture and Miss Hudson has children to teach. Besides, being a half-breed means he can only dream about a wife, family and a home. Not accepted by either race except when they need someone to protect and defend, he learned long ago what being an outcast means.

Rachel has secrets of her own that keep her on the edge of acceptance in her town, despite the amorous attentions of the son of the leading citizen. When the town denizens learn she's been harboring a man, even an injured man, they turn on her.

Jake leaves Rachel to bring the outlaw to justice and the real story unfolds. It's a tale of death and destruction with Rachel's past the connecting link.

Reading the first few chapters, Touch of Texas seemed a predictable romance. Then I turned the page and the real adventure began. In her debut novel, Tracy Garrett layered in enough obstacles and challenges to keep me turning those pages in this story of love, loss and determination.
