When  Francesca DuVall and her brother Marshall are captured by a ruthless band of Cheyenne known as the Dog Soldiers, Francesca is determined to fight her captors to save her younger teenage brother’s life.

Meko, or I Am The Wind as he is called, knows he shouldn’t have taken the spirited white woman but something compelled him—a desire stronger than he’s ever known.  Though he is determined to have her as his woman, he wants her to come willing.  A fierce warrior who leads the Dog Soldiers, Meko is much more.  In truth, he comes from the future, modern times, and will need to travel back when the time comes.  Taking the woman has added a complication he is sure to pay for with the Sacred Council.

Slowly, Francesca comes to terms with the culture of her captors and this acceptance opens her heart to the Mekko.  But is she prepared to endure the trials that will be required for the Cheyenne to accept her? And, as importantly, is Meko? And what will happen to her if Meko is called back to his time?

K. Celeste Bryan has written a well-researched novel that explains and elucidates the complexities of Native American culture.  Rituals, rites of passage, food and traditions are all examined in detail. Chronicling the bloody demise of a way of life,  Bryan’s descriptions can be graphic so readers should be prepared. With a feisty heroine and a stoic warrior, Where the Rain is Made successfully sets a sensuous romance against the larger canvass of Native American history.
