Elise Vickerson had been pushed to her limit by a drunken, violent husband. She felt trapped by her vows and her husband Jonathan exploited this, knocking her down and putting her in her place at every opportunity, all the while making sure things appeared as it should to the onlooker. When her father passes away, Elise realizes things cannot continue this way and slowly, a plan starts to form. With her future depending on her escape, the details have to be precise. If Jonathan discovered her intentions, Elise would be punished, severely, and her dream of returning to her childhood home to make a new start in life would fail at the first hurdle.
The last thing Cody Campbell wanted to see on his land was trespassers. The land next to the ranch he grew up on had been promised to him by the owner so when the owner’s daughter turns up staking a claim, Cody is ready to fight tooth and nail to get what he wants. If only it were that simple. Cody has never felt the emotions that Elise stirs within before and as much as he tries to distance himself from her and remain focused on the issues at hand, she is all he can think about. Cody isn’t the type of man to go after a married woman however, even if it does seem that Elise isn’t being truthful about everything that has being going on in her life. If either one wants to achieve their goals, it seems they are going to have to start working with one another, rather than against.

Wyoming Solace is the story of a woman who has suffered greatly at the hands of a man who was supposed to love and cherish her. It quickly becomes apparent that Jonathan is a manipulative, hateful man and the fact that Elise admonishes herself for falling for his act just makes her more likable and endearing. She never comes across as pitiful and I feel that the character would be horrified if someone felt sorry for her. Elise is a good woman with a strength that is admirable but also a lot of pride and stubbornness, qualities that added dimension and kept me reading. It was thrilling to read her attempt at escaping such a horrid life. The story then switches gear to her attempt to rebuild her life and her subsequent meeting with Cody. Although I felt the pace slowed a little after her departure from Jonathan, it soon kicks up a gear with the chemistry between her and Cody. Their dance around inevitability was a joy to read. There are some very erotic scenes played out, as well as some pretty gruesome ones, all of which were made vivid by the strong foundations set for the characters and the plot from the beginning.
